A RIOT GRRRL GUIDE TO PUNK POETRY PERFORMANCE

10 June 2017

website

Venue: Theatre Utopia, 1 Matthews Yard, Croydon CR0 1FF

Organiser: Shannon Mulvey

Shannon Mulvey is a writer, performer and director. She is the founder and artistic director of The Sisters of Eden. A feminist performance collective which create shows which aim to resurrect the 1970’s radical performance art movement and fuse it with the attitude and punk essence of the 1990’s Riot Grrrl scene. Shannon has trained at Rose Bruford drama school and Columbia college Chicago. She has also trained with the experimental theatre company Gardzienice at their theatre training centre in Poland.

In this session we will call on the powers of the collective to access and deliver a fearless collection of spoken word poetry which will culminate to an improvised performance piece with all participants of the workshop.

By using various performance practice techniques taken from the feminist Avant-Garde movement as well as experimental performance practitioners, we will empower the performer and access new modes of expression- liberated from patriarchal language!
