Moving House

6 November 2016

Venue: Roberta the Rascal (Narrowboat), moored just outside Marple at: Lime Kiln Ln, Marple, Stockport SK6 6BX

Organiser: Owen Mason

Sian is a Speech and Language Therapist and Nathaniel Mason works in the live arts. Naturally the combination of those disciplines lead us to an empty Narrow boat just over one year ago which we now live on. The boat began as a forgotten shell, with only six windows and some insulation. It had been left in a yard and had never seen the water. Over the past year we have been fitting the boat out whilst living on it. Slowly but surely life has become a little easier as we re-learnt how to live. Now we even have a bath and wood burner and three poster bed. This project has taught us how to live simply and self-sufficiently, whilst providing a praxis based research project into transient living, provoking questions around non-local community and global movement.

Starting in the dark hours of the morning we will take you on a trip along the peak forest canal in our boat Roberta the Rascal. As the sun rises, with a constant stream of tea and a warm fire, we will cruise the quiet canals and experience the slow, peaceful environment.
